13th Grade

After I made the hasty decision to go back to college, I needed to decide where exactly I wanted to go. Since most admission departments are dealing with people who take care and patience deciding where they want to go in the last two years of high school, sending in a college application in April wouldn’t alow me to attend summer session classes anywhere. I didn’t have high school transcripts, letters of reference, SAT scores, nada, zip, nothing.

I decided to apply at Essex County College. For $25 I was a college student enrolled in Western Literary Tradition and World Civilization. Since these were both pretty standard requirements for all degrees

As part of this application process, I was also required to take a placement test to determine my comprehension of college level Algebra. I’m not going to build any suspense here…I suck at math. Especially math that incorporates the alphabet.

My score indicated that I would need to take remedial Math to prepare me for College Algebra. In retrospect, I should have just waited until I transferred to a 4 year school, but according to the douches at Essex County College, I needed to take this non transferable, 4 hours a day during the summer, excruciatingly painful class toots sweet.

While I looked forward to the torture of this class, I got to enjoy the first summer semester reading Gilgamesh, Shakespeare and topics like neolithic peoples, early Egyptian civilizations and the middle ages. Excuse me as I sprout this geek boner, but this stuff turns me on.
